History
The Trinity United Methodist Church held its first worship service on October 12, 1980.The Church was started by the North Texas Conference Board of Church Extension as a response to the needs of a growing community. The gathering place for worship was Zachary’s restaurant in Denton. Less than a year later, the church moved to a shopping center on Londonderry Lane that had previously been occupied by Southmont Baptist Church. Church School classes met in homes until September 4, 1983 when the church moved into its permanent home at 633 Hobson Lane. The first structure was over 7000 square feet. A part-time associate, an administrative assistant and a choir director were hired. In 1985 an additional student associate was added to coordinate youth ministry. In the fall of 1987, a new sanctuary seating 700 was constructed. Its amenities included 11 classrooms, offices, a sacristy, and a choir rehearsal room. A bell tower was also added during this phase. After this, Trinity grew to approximately 800 members and a staff of 13 people. Trinity grew to offer 3 worship services, seven adult Sunday School classes and a children’s Sunday School class for each grade. Additional adult education classes, three children’s choirs and a youth band were also added to the fabric of this community during this time.On October 8, 2005, Trinity celebrated its 25th Anniversary, with some of its charter members still participating in the church. |
